Why Own SI is different
Oticon Own SI is a true custom hearing aid. An ear impression is used so the shell can be manufactured for the individual canal. The IIC and CIC options prioritise discretion and comfort, but canal size, wax, dexterity, hearing-loss configuration and the space required for components all affect candidacy.
Which is more discreet?
There is no universal answer. An IIC Own SI can sit very deeply in a suitable ear canal, while Zeal is designed to be highly discreet without being a conventional custom shell. In a smaller or sharply shaped canal, a product that looks tiny in marketing material may actually sit more visibly. This is why otoscopy and ear anatomy matter.
Rechargeability and handling
Rechargeability is one of Zeal’s major practical differences. Own SI IIC and CIC models use small disposable batteries. Some people prefer never changing tiny batteries; others prefer a custom shell and are comfortable with battery handling. Vision, dexterity and daily routine should be part of the decision.
Connectivity
Zeal is designed around newer wireless connectivity, including Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast-capable technology where compatible. The smallest custom hearing aids often involve connectivity trade-offs because antenna and component space are limited.
